Anger at Nazi memorabilia on sale in Camden antiques market

A CAMDEN Passage shop selling Nazi memorabilia has sparked outrage among fellow traders who say it shames the world famous antiques market.

Nazi caps, SS daggers and banners carrying swastikas are among the controversial items on sale at Leon’s Militaria and Antiques, in The Mall.

The shop’s Jewish owner Leon Shrier refused to comment when contacted by the Gazette, but others working in the area say they are disgusted by what’s on show.

One shop owner, who asked not to be named, said: “The mall has a fantastic reputation for selling high quality antiques.

“I think that the sale of these pieces ruins that reputation and attracts the wrong sort of people to the area.

“I don’t think that these items should be destroyed and erased from history, but I do think that they belong in a museum.”

Mr Shrier is reported to have said that he would not sell Nazi-related items to anyone he believes might be involved in right-wing activity.

Another local businessman said: “For me personally as a Jew it’s very offensive to see Nazi symbols in shop windows.

“The guy who runs the shop says he’s having the last laugh because he, a Jewish man, is making money from the Nazis. But it seems like a strange argument.”
