DODDS lines up college fairs for high schoolers in Europe

Defense Department high schools across Europe will host college fairs and workshops in the next couple of months to help high school students and servicemembers make the right decision.

Most of the college fairs will be held in October and November, with a few in December, according to Dennis Bohannon, spokesman for Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe.

Many high schools, faced with lower enrollments due to the military drawdown, are combining their events with those of other schools.

Kaiserslautern will host the biggest one from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Special Events Center on Rhine Ordnance Barracks. Organizers moved the program from Ramstein High School because it was so well attended last year.

Representatives from more than 85 colleges and universities are scheduled to be at the event, according to organizer Larry Zani. Schools from places such as Hanau and Bitburg plan to bus students to Kaiserslautern to attend.
