Prince Charles Hand-Painted Wine Bottles Sold At Sothebys New York Auction

Published March 2nd, 2007

Wine bottles featuring labels painted by Britain’s Prince Charles have been sold for $15,000 at an auction.
The bottles went under the hammer at New York auction house Sotheby’s on Thursday.
Charles was invited to paint a label for Chвteau Mouton Rothschild’s 2004 vintage wine.
The princes’ watercolor depicts pine trees at Cap d’Antibes, on the Cote d’Azur, in France. The idea behind his work was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale, an agreement signed by Britain and France in 1904 designed to settle disputes over colonial expansion.
The current owner of the prestigious French wine company, Baroness Phillippine de Rothschild described Charles as a “subtle, civilized man.”
