Campaign launched to help stop Edinburgh?s fairs going under

A NEW drive aimed at helping to secure the future of Edinburgh’s festivals, events and community celebrations has been unveiled.

City leaders are mounting a campaign to help organisers ensure they can afford to keep events running and are prepared for any eventuality if things go wrong.

A special 16-page booklet has been produced to help established events avoid a financial crisis and also give new events assistance to get off the ground.

The campaign has been unveiled a year after the local authority ruled out helping community fairs and galas to pay bumper insurance bills. Officials warned any claims could affect the council’s premiums and result in major administration bills.

Many event organisers have seen costs soar in recent years because insurers insist they must provide cover in case of a terrorist attack, no matter the scale of the event.
