Queen Elizabeth I Portrait at The Grosvenor House Art & Antiques Fair

Published June 13th, 2006

A portrait of former Queen Elizabeth I that portrays her in a softer image than traditionally seen will go on exhibit in London this week.

The painting is of Elizabeth when she was princess and has been in a private collection in Spain for the last 40 years, the Telegraph reports.

The painting will be offered up for sale at The Grosvenor House Art & Antiques Fair in Mayfair, and has been priced at just under $1.5 million, it was reported.

While later paintings of Elizabeth typically portray her as a strong monarch, the new painting, which has been dated to 1547 and created by an unknown artist, reportedly reveals her softer side.
